The new driver is a great addition to the Callaway equipment. Like most drivers that enter the market, the FT-iZ claims to increase distance without sacrificing consistency. Straighter, longer drives is the goal of the new technology found in the FT-iZ driver.
An amalgamation of every material currently in use to manufacture drivers, the FT-iZ is a technological phenomenon. Cast titanium, cast steel, compression cured carbon fiber and formed aluminum are all incorporated to create a balled fist intended to be longer and straighter than anything Calloway has ever created. Not exactly a novel goal, but certainly one worth pursuing. Keeping all this potential energy under control is served by keeping the shaft length to a reasonable 45-inches, rather than searching for distance by simply increasing the swing arc. The shaft is a balance matched Aldila Voo Doo model, and can be selected in regular, stiff and extra stiff.
The FT-iZ driver is Callaway’s most technologically advanced driver, designed to deliver maximum levels of performance off the tee. The new, more appealing clubhead is a multi-material construction that has been designed to minimiZe drag and optimiZe swing speeds.
Callaway’s Fusion Technology uses the principles of multi-material design to give the FT-iZ a winning combination of feel and performance combined with a stunning appearance. The body of the FT-iZ is made from woven carbon fibre which is placed between an aerospace-grade titanium clubface and a rear weight constructed from high density alloy.
This construction gives the Callaway FT-iZ polar weighting with the heavy face and rear weight localising weight at the front and back of the club with the rear weight acting as the power source. With 74% of the club’s weight concentrate at the face and rear of the clubhead the FT-iZ delivers a very high Moment of Inertia (MOI) to promote straighter and more forgiving drives. This distribution of weight also places the Centre of Gravity low in the clubhead for the mix of ball speed and spin control that deliver excellent, long ball flight time and again.
The FT-iZ golf driver’s features a chemically milled hyperbolic face which has undergone an acid reduction process to provide precision thickness across the clubface to help the FT-iZ achieve consistent ball speed even on off centre hit.
With so much going on inside the clubhead Callaway have not forgotten about appearances either and they have taken their inspiration for the more triangular clubhead from the aerodynamic design of race cars. The combined many discount golf equipment’s merits. This has ensured the FT-iZ cuts through the air much more efficiently than the Callaway FTiQ model to promote the faster head and ball speeds that are so critical for greater distance.
The Callaway FT-iZ offers the consistency that can only come from having such high levels of stability, feel and performance in your golf bag.
Callaway threw everything they had into this one. It's a pretty amazing driver too. I've got discount golf clubs that are longer, but not as forgiving. I've got a club or two that are as forgiving, but not as long. This club is well balanced between distance, forgiveness, and actual balance of the club itself. It comes in 9,10,11, and 13* lofts with the Lefties able to pick up a 10 or 11*. The shaft is a winner and allows for anyone with a 90 MPH+ Swing to hit a "Stiff Flex." The Regular Flex is 65 grams with 4.2* of Torque. The Stiff moves up to a mere 66 Grams but drops to 3.5* of torque. The Extra Stiff Jumps to 68 Grams, and sports a low---but not boardy--3.2* of torque. This is a lot of club for the price. $399 isn't cheap, but the fact that they may remain special order for a while tells you right away that a lot of R&D Money was spent on this baby, and that they are still taking their time geting her from drawing board to production line. Good Job Callaway!
